About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) conducted a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to evaluate alternatives for widening approximately 8 miles of U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from County Road (C.R.) 470 to S.R. 44 in Sumter County.

The initial PD&E Study was completed in 2019, and the project was advanced to design.

This project is part of the Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative (www.fdot.gov/movingfloridaforward), which allows FDOT to advance much-needed roadway improvements around the state to address congestion, improve safety, ensure the resiliency of our transportation network, and enhance Florida’s supply chain and economic growth. The project will be built in phases:

  • FPID No. 430132-2 will add lanes and reconstruct U.S. 301 from C.R. 470 to Industrial Park Drive (formerly C.R. 525E).
  • FPID No. 430132-4 will add lanes and reconstruct U.S. 301 from Industrial Park Drive to Warm Springs Avenue, including rerouting a portion of U.S. 301 around the City of Coleman.
  • FPID No.: 430132-5 will complete the widening from Warm Springs Avenue to Florida's Turnpike.

The first phase to be built will be 430132-4, which is the realignment around the City of Coleman.
