448793-1 U.S. 1 from Myers Drive to Crane Creek Bridge
Project Details
About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing safety and operational improvements on U.S. 1 (State Road (S.R.) 5) from Myers Drive to the Crane Creek bridge in Melbourne and Palm Bay. The project includes resurfacing the roadway to extend its life, drainage improvements, sidewalk enhancements, and safety upgrades.
Bicycle safety will be improved by restriping the travel lanes to provide 7-foot-wide buffered bicycle lanes from Myers Drive to University Boulevard. Pedestrian curb ramps will be reconstructed to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and pedestrian signals will be upgraded. Enhanced lighting at signalized intersections is also included.
This project will also include parts of a Streetscape project from the City of Melbourne, which proposes pedestrian improvements, constructing raised medians from Avenida Del Rio to Crane Creek Bridge, and adding directional medians at Roosevelt Avenue and Jernigan Avenue. The raised medians and directional medians will restrict left turns from some side streets and driveways onto U.S. 1.

Lane Closures
-
Motorists are advised that a continuous single inside lane closure will be implemented northbound and southbound U.S.1 (S.R. 5) from University Boulevard to Crane Creek Bridge.
These closures are needed for median work.
FDOT encourages all roadway users to drive, walk and ride with caution and courtesy!
