About

This Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project will extend the life of the existing roadway by milling and resurfacing the eastbound travel lanes of State Road (S.R.) 33/S.R. 50 (Orange Street) from east of Ivey Street, where the road splits from the westbound lanes, to Crittenden Street.

To enhance pedestrian safety, this project will construct a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) west of Alabama Avenue, and two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB)—one east of Georgia Avenue and the other west of Indiana Avenue. Other improvements include the construction of curbed islands, reconstruction of sidewalks and driveways, installation of signs and pavement markings, and signal modification at North Lake Avenue and South Main Avenue.

WHAT TO EXPECT: During construction, motorists should expect overnight lane closures on weekdays, and possibly weekends. Detours are possible where a full road closure is unavoidable. Electronic message boards and other signage will direct traffic through the work zone.

Uneven pavement is a common condition with projects that require temporary asphalt or resurfacing, as the contractor must place several layers of asphalt throughout construction. Motorists should reduce their speed, heed posted signage, and remain alert throughout the work zone. The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather or unexpected circumstances.

RESOURCES: This project includes the construction of three pedestrian-actuated midblock crossings—one PHB and two RRFBs—at the locations described above. Learn more about how to use each one:
