About
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project is resurfacing U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from north of County Road (C.R.) 42 to north of Southeast 144th Place Road to extend the life of the existing roadway.
Safety and operational improvements will also be implemented, including the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Southeast 147th Street. Additional enhancements include widening shoulders at select locations, drainage upgrades, providing bicycle through lanes (also known as keyholes) next to right turn lanes, guardrail reconstruction, and new lighting at the curve from north of Southeast 147th Street to Southeast 144th Place Road.
Audible and vibratory pavement markings will be added along the shoulders in specific areas to enhance safety. New signs and pavement markings will be installed throughout the corridor.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Daytime and nighttime work is expected. During construction, motorists should expect planned overnight lane closures (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) when needed and possible detours. Electronic message boards and other signage will direct traffic through the work zone.
Where driveway reconstruction and mailbox relocation are necessary, property owners will be appropriately notified. Uneven pavement is a common condition with projects that require temporary asphalt or resurfacing, as the contractor must place several layers of asphalt over the course of construction. Motorists should reduce their speed, heed posted signage, and remain alert throughout the work zone.
The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather or unexpected circumstances.
