About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will make safety and operational enhancements on State Road (S.R.) 19 from north of Stevens Avenue to County Road (C.R.) 452 in Eustis. S.R. 19 splits through the City of Eustis, with northbound lanes as Grove Street and southbound lanes as Bay Street.

Both sides of the roadway will be resurfaced. Raised crosswalks will be constructed to reduce vehicle speeds on Grove Street at the intersections of Magnolia Avenue and Gottsche Avenue and on Bay Street at the intersections of Magnolia Avenue, McDonald Avenue, and Clifford Avenue. Curb extensions, or bulb-outs, will help increase pedestrian visibility and reduce crossing distances.

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), audible pedestrian-activated devices that increase safety at midblock crossings, will be added on Grove Street at the intersections of Norton Avenue, Lemon Avenue, McDonald Avenue, Gottsche Avenue, and Eustis Street. RRFBs will also be placed on Bay Street at the intersections of Magnolia Avenue and McDonald Avenue. Shared lane markers, known as “sharrows,” will be placed on Grove Street and Bay Street.

These markers will denote a shared lane for cyclists and motorists. Upgraded lighting, drainage, and traffic and pedestrian signalization, and scaping, signs, striping, and pavement markings. Other upgrades will include lighting, drainage, signage, striping, landscaping, pavement markings, and traffic/pedestrian signalization.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Construction activities are expected during the day and at night. Motorists should expect lane closures and potential detours during the life of the project. Traffic may be shifted to allow crews to perform construction activities safely. Electronic message boards and other signage will help motorists navigate the work zone. Business access and pedestrian facilities will be maintained. Any necessary pedestrian detours will be firm, unyielding, and properly signed.

The project timeline is subject to change and may be adjusted depending on weather conditions or unforeseen events.

This project is expected to be constructed alongside a safety project (FPID No. 445686-1), which will improve several intersections throughout the corridor.
