About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will repave U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from County Road (C.R.) 521 to S.R. 44 between the cities of Coleman and Wildwood to extend the life of the existing roadway.

Planned safety enhancements include adding asphalt to several locations where side roads and driveways remain unpaved. Shoulder widening will take place on C.R. 471 through the Florida Turnpike interchange at U.S. 301. The project will also add 800 feet of sidewalk on the west side of U.S. 301 between Spring Lake Road and S.R. 44 to fill gaps and improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Additional work includes modifying signing and pavement markings, realigning the S.R. 91 exit ramp to U.S. 301, installing signalization at southbound and northbound Florida Turnpike exit ramps to U.S. 301, and installing roadway lighting at the ramp terminals.

WHAT TO EXPECT: During construction, motorists should expect lane closures and detours on weekdays and weekends. Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to direct traffic through the work zone.

Uneven pavement is a common condition with projects that require temporary asphalt pavement or resurfacing, as the contractor must put down different layers of asphalt during various phases of construction. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and reduce their speed while driving through the work zone.

The construction schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions.
