About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), along with several agencies partners listed below, are conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to evaluate a combination of a multi-use trail and other bicycle and pedestrian features. As shown on the map in the Project Files section below, these options would traverse both the Merritt Island National Seashore, or MINWR, and the Canaveral National Seashore also known as CANA.
A PD&E Study is FDOT's process for adhering to state and federal requirements including the National Environmental Policy Act. It is a process that includes engineering analysis, environmental evaluations, public involvement and agency coordination. The FAQ's below provide more information.
Agency partners in this effort include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), National Park Service (NPS), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Space Coast, Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), River to Sea TPO, City of Titusville, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT).
The PD&E Study for the Space Coast Trail is complete and the project is currently in the design phase. Information regarding the design of the Space Coast Trail may be found at https://www.cflroads.com/project/437093-2.
