About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) widened State Road (S.R.) 50 from two to four lanes between the Hernando/Sumter County Line and east of County Road (C.R.) 478A. The work consisted of building 12-foot-wide travel lanes with 5-foot-wide paved shoulders in each direction and a two-lane bridge adjacent to the existing bridge over the Little Withlacoochee River.

Additionally, a 12-foot-wide shared-use path with a 30-foot grassed median was built on the south side of the roadway. Other improvements included road resurfacing and drainage improvements. The purpose of this project was to accommodate the increased traffic demand and improve safety along the corridor.
