BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is planning to provide additional pedestrian crossings with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) along S.R. A1A from Hidden Cove Drive to Sea Dunes Drive near Melbourne Beach. The community is invited to learn about the plans and provide input at a public meeting on Thursday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m.

The PHB is an innovative, pedestrian activated overhead traffic signal. Once activated, the PHB flashes yellow and then turns red to alert drivers to stop. When the light turns red, the pedestrian receives the “Walk” signal to cross the road. The beacon will then flash red, at which time drivers can proceed with caution if the roadway is clear of pedestrians.

The Department is offering multiple ways for the community to participate in the meeting. All participants, regardless of platform they choose, will participate in the same live meeting.

FDOT encourages community involvement and is offering this public meeting in a hybrid format to provide more ways to participate. All attendees, regardless of which platform they choose, will receive the same information.
