VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – While both directions of Interstate 95 (I-95) remain closed in the New Smyrna Beach/ Edgewater area, the incident scene is almost clear, which will allow the Florida Department of Transportation to begin road repairs.

Asphalt in the area sustained fire and fuel damage from today’s incidents. All three lanes of northbound I-95, the outside shoulder, and the off ramp to State Road (S.R.) 442 were damaged. For southbound I-95, all three lanes and the inside shoulder were damaged. Repairs to the roadway are necessary before opening to traffic.

Drivers should be advised of the same detours that occurred throughout the day remaining in place while repairs are made.

  • Northbound I-95 traffic is being rerouted at County Road (C.R. 5A)(Mile Marker (MM) 231). Drivers can re-enter northbound I-95 at State Road (S.R.) 442.
  • Southbound I-95 traffic is being rerouted at S.R. 44 (MM 249). Drivers can re-enter southbound I-95 at S.R. 442.

Repair work is expected to continue through the night. Motorists traveling on I-95 in or through Volusia County are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
