DELAND, Fla. – This week, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and SunRail are joining other State DOTs and organizations nationwide to recognize Rail Safety Week, reminding everyone to be safe near railroad tracks and crossings. Please see press release attached.

FDOT District Five will offer two Central Florida media availability events – one in Melbourne on Monday, Sept. 23, and the other in Maitland on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Interviews with representatives from participating organizations will be offered.

Details for Monday’s availability:

WHEN:          Monday, Sept. 23, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.,

WHERE:        Campbell Park, 929 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne, FL 32901. Public parking is available in downtown Melbourne.

WHO:             Representatives from FDOT, Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, Florida Highway Patrol, and the Melbourne Police Department will be available for media interviews about rail safety.

Details for Tuesday’s availability:

WHEN:          Tuesday, Sept. 24, 8:30 to 10 a.m.

WHERE:        Public parking lot at corner of East Horatio Boulevard and North Maitland Avenue, Maitland, FL 32751. Entrance to parking lot is on East Horatio.

WHO:             Maitland Police will be conducting grade crossing enforcement. Representatives from FDOT and Maitland Police Department will be available for media interviews about rail safety, including SunRail’s “Get a Clue About Rail Safety” campaign.
