About

This project proposes to widen about 2.3 miles of U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from County Road (C.R.) 470 to C.R. 525E (Industrial Park Drive) in Sumter County. The improvements follow the recommendations of the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study completed in 2019.

This project is part of the Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative (www.fdot.gov/movingfloridaforward), which allows FDOT to advance much-needed roadway improvements around the state to address congestion, improve safety, ensure the resiliency of our transportation network, and enhance Florida’s supply chain and economic growth.

Proposed improvements include widening U.S. 301 within the project limits to provide two lanes in each direction separated by a raised median. Safer accommodations for both bicycles and pedestrians will be included by adding a 12-foot-wide shared-use path on both sides of U.S. 301.

This project is one of three segments of the widening project. Project 430132-4 will construct a new alignment around the City of Coleman, while project 430132-5 will widen U.S. 301 from Warm Springs Avenue (C.R. 468) to Florida's Turnpike.
